COMPOUND OVERVIEW

Epitalon (Epithalamin synthetic form, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a synthetic tetrapeptide developed from Epithalamin, a polypeptide fraction originally isolated from bovine pineal gland extract. Created by Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, Epitalon has been one of the most extensively studied longevity peptides, with decades of research exploring its effects on telomere elongation, telomerase activation, circadian rhythm regulation, melatonin production, and neuroendocrine aging. Its short tetrapeptide structure makes it highly stable, easy to synthesize at high purity, and well-suited for research protocols examining fundamental mechanisms of biological aging.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Epitalon’s primary research-characterized mechanism involves activation of telomerase — the enzyme responsible for elongating telomeres, the protective caps on chromosomes that shorten with each cell division. In aging cell cultures and animal models, Epitalon has been shown to restore telomerase activity and extend telomere length, effectively resetting a key cellular aging clock. It also stimulates melatonin secretion from the pineal gland (which declines with age), regulates the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, and demonstrates antioxidant properties. Epitalon has been studied for its ability to restore age-related decline in multiple endocrine systems simultaneously.

RESEARCH APPLICATIONS

  • Telomere biology and telomerase activation research
  • Longevity and biological aging mechanism studies
  • Pineal gland function and melatonin regulation research
  • Neuroendocrine aging and restoration research
  • Cell cycle and senescence modulation studies
  • Circadian rhythm and sleep regulation research
  • Antioxidant pathway research in aging models

KEY RESEARCH FINDINGS

  • Research by Khavinson et al. demonstrates Epitalon activates telomerase in human fetal fibroblasts and extends their lifespan beyond Hayflick limits in cell culture
  • Animal longevity studies show statistically significant lifespan extension in rodents with Epitalon treatment compared to controls
  • Research in aging models shows Epitalon restores telomere length in aged lymphocytes toward levels observed in younger subjects
  • Pineal function studies confirm Epitalon stimulates melatonin secretion and restores circadian rhythm patterns in aged research models
  • Neuroendocrine research demonstrates restoration of hypothalamic regulatory function and normalization of LH/FSH patterns with Epitalon
  • Antioxidant studies confirm reduction in lipid peroxidation markers and elevation of SOD activity with Epitalon administration

STORAGE & HANDLING

  • Store lyophilized at -20°C; stable up to 24 months
  • Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water; store at 2–8°C; use within 28 days
  • Epitalon is relatively stable compared to larger peptides — still protect from heat and UV
  • Do not freeze reconstituted solution
  • Handle with standard sterile research technique
